I remember on a flight a few years ago the FAs thanked the frequent flyers on board and announced that there were X Platinum, X Gold and X Silver (don't remember the numbers) on board - and 1 Million Miler. Guess who was in Coach?

It doesn't anymore.

Back in the early 90s, I was at the ticket counter in MSY. It wasn't busy, nobody behind us in the elite line, so the gentleman in front of me spread out his Flying Colonel card, Royal Medallion card and Million Miler card on the counter and asked the agent "which of these makes the most difference?"

The agent tapped the FC card and said - "we honor our FCs, but you were nominated for this by your travel agent so what it tells me is that you probably are head of your company." He then tapped the Royal Medallion card and said "this tells me you've been flying with us a lot this past year." Then he tapped the Million Miler card and said "now this one- this tells me that you've been flying us a lot for many many years - this is the one that means the most to me. All of these cards tell me you are a very important customer to Delta - but this tells me you have been so for a long time."
