For the OP Direct flights arenot listed first, nonstops are. There is simple solution to the direct flight problem. Don't book them if you don't want them. They aren't always the fastest way to make the connection. On a recent trip I was on a direct flight that stopped in Chicago. The domestic part of the direct flight was over 4 hours later. I took a domestic flight 2 hours earlier.
