One exception, according to my Diamond brochure, is that hotels are not obligated to give us Diamond benefits on Priceline-type stays where the hotel brand is unknown at time of purchase. Some hotels give benefits for Priceline stays anyway, but they don't have to.
But certainly we should be able to expect benefits on award stays. And I agree that compliance is spotty. Very frustrating. There was a thread recently suggesting that Diamonds get cheaper VIP awards. Heck, I'd be OK with the new award levels the way they are if Diamonds could just consistently get the benefits we're supposed to get and without having to argue or beg. End of rant.
