Even if the OP opts not to go into Manhattan, there is no reason not to sample some great NY food while in Queens. For good kosher deli, there is Ben's Best on Queens Boulevard in Rego Park. (Q72 bus from LGA to the last stop -- about a 25-minute ride.) And a consistently highly-rated pizza can be found at Nick's on Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills.
