You can do this trip a little cheaper on weekends by buying the "Happy Weekender" ticket. That would eliminate the need for a separate fare from Frankfurt to Kahl, as it is good for travel anywhere in Germany.
Yes, you're right. Sorry, I didn't check the timetable. It's just that these cheap tickets are only valid on regional trains where you usually change quite a lot when going on longer distances. But this route is quite ok. BTW how much were you charged by Czech train staff? In theory someone crossing the border with just a Bayern ticket should be charged penalty+fare. But sometimes they just charge a small fee for issuing a ticket on train. I think Bayern Ticket is the cheapest choice but I would invest a little more for Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket which is 33 euro for up to 5 people and is valid also for cross border travel up to Plzen (Pilsen) in CZ.
Finally sorry for mentioning lufthansa to Prague from Hamburg International, it's Frankfurt of course
