I usually rent from Hertz and I have noticed that prices for weekend rentals have nearly doubled from a year ago. Now I only rent when it is absolutely necessary or when a cheap rate is offered near my departure date. I will check at a month out, a week and then a few days before departure. I still score an occasional good deal but nothing like in the last ten years.
I am learning to use mass transit more than in the past.
