What a shame. UA, if you are listening, change your product on the 777!
UA, if you're listening, you're doing
great with the new IPTE design. Your international F/C cabins are far ahead of any other US-based carrier. Yes, I preferred AC's C to your new C, but then again, AC doesn't have F (nor does NZ). And your new C was perfectly comfortable -- a bit short on storage space, but I can live with that.
Seriously, huge kudos on the new IPTE. I'm disappointed to hear you won't be rolling it out sooner on the 777s, but I'll just book around that little problem.

I don't know about this. I flew YYZ-YVR-SYD on an AC 767 with their new herringbone C and the layout seemed efficient in terms of making use of the width of the cabin.

I don't know about this, either. I flew UA's new IPTE in C ORD-LHR, F LHR-IAD, and the C was nice... very nice... but F was fantastic. It felt much more private and I had space to spread out everything quite easily -- books, iPhone, laptop. I had to do some juggling in C.

You're based in IAD, right? UA flies a whole bunch of routes with the new IPTE out of IAD. Can't you just avoid the 777 routes?
