I think it imperative that United start allowing upgrades from Z on old configuration 777's without co-pay or with SWU's, and make this change effective January 1 or sooner. Of course, UA is not putting the seats in to offer a better upgrade experience for 1Ks and GS. It's doing it to increase its market share of paid Business and First seats. Right now, that market is very weak so a good argument can be made to save the cash. When the market recovers, then it's a different matter but that may be some time away - just like the 777 upgrades.
