In a poll of 4,500 hotel owners the French have finished bottom (what a terrible shock).
They are "bad at foreign languages, tight-fisted, arrogant and seen as impolite".
The Japanese topped the poll, presumably due to being well dressed, polite & good tippers.

Personally on my travels I find Germans, Scandinavians and Canadians among the friendliest.
Austrailians are always nice to meet, as are our good cousins over the pond.
How do fellow FT'ers rate us Brits if you are unfortunate to bump into us whilst staying abroad ? No swearing please.
