Depends a bit on your price sensitivity and final destination in India. I've always gone east from NYC/ORD/DEN and transferred at LHR/FRA/ZRH.

I used an SWU C->F last week on FRA-BLR and gave one to a colleage to use Y->C on the return. Both cleared without any problem.

LH and LX long haul in Y is not as good as UA. If you're not married to *A, BA serves India well and their E+ class is nice.
