This is CX specific - but presumably would apply to all other airlines?
Or is there a way to move to the lower fare (can the travel agent through whom this was done help in this) without cancelling and re-purchasing?
Thanks!
As my knowledge with CX, first they will ask you to cancel the whole segment book in "Y", they will process the whole refund with penalty added. Then rebook the new segment under any classes lower than Y, such as H,K,M,L,S,V.
It's the same with AA as well, when I purchase my LAXFRA 4months prior departure the price was $900, but it's drop down to $600 2months prior to departure. Still, they ask me to cancel my previous booking and rebook the new one.
Others than those two carriers, I have no idea.
Cheers!
