I'm on the PHX-CLT redeye a few times a month.
If I'm going to redeye, I'd rather do it on a longer trip that lands me in my home city rather than a connecting point on a shorter route. Hence the reason for backtracking SMF-SFO-PHL (all on UA). Well, that, and the upgrade options I have with them since I have no status with US.
