Same story here. I've been an AMEX customer since 87 and am a Platinum card holder with a perfect payment history and good credit. A few months ago I was embarrassed after trying to pay for a lunch tab with friends and having my card come up declined. I call, get the same story everyone else here has. A few weeks ago, exactly two days after my payment and a day prior to receiving my new Platinum card, my card is declined again at the airport for a small purchase. Better there than in the foreign country I was headed off to where I planned on using the card.

I travel alot and have always used AMEX as my primary card. At this point it is no longer a reliable option for me and I plan on canceling my card. Before I do that, I want to get what they owe me from Membership Rewards, which is quite a bit. I cashed in my MR points today after reading horror storries of AMEX cancelling people's cards out of the blue and taking their points.

I don't care what they offer, as a longstanding good customer, I will not tolerate this kind of treatment. There are plenty of others out there who will be happy to have my business.
