If the child cannot be taught to stop kicking, the parent should try to choose seats so that the parent or other family member is the one sitting in front of the kicking child. (Yes, misconnects and rebookings can wreak havoc to the best laid plans, but it is better to at least try to choose seats in a way so that the child does not bother non-family members.)
