An employee perk is fine, but I think it should be common sense to keep a low profile, not complain about your company in front of passengers, or otherwise keep FAs from doing their job by engaging them in private conversations.
Having flown in and out of this route many times, I think the highest volume of NRSAs on UA are on the CDG routes.
A few months ago, I was in C, row 9, on the 777 CDG-IAD. On-line seatmap the day before showed a little over half of C being empty, including the seat next to me.
Fast-forward to boarding, and in those 14 seats in row 8 and 9 there were about 10 NRSAs. Very obvious, especially in pre-flight chit-chat, with a couple complaining they couldn't get F.
Talked to an on-duty FA who mentioned there were 27 standbys for F on that day. There was one revenue (a GS) in 1A. I would have been really angry if I were him, as there was a regular flow of congregating and chatting near the cockpit entrance.
It's even more frustrating that a million-miler loses a duplicate BP/seat conflict to, not only an NRSA, but an NRSA of another airline, TWICE.
