Yes, we stayed there 10/16-17, 2002. The DoubleTree Guest Suites in Columbus is shabby. The room decor is dreary (dark greens and purples). This hotel is in an undesirable, run-down section of downtown with a lot of homeless/scary people on the street. Had I been a woman traveling alone, I would have felt extremely unsafe. As it was, I dreaded returning to the hotel each night.
The new Arena district in the north end of downtown is MUCH more desirable -- look for hotels in that area.
There are very limited amenities at this hotel (no shop where you could buy sundries or snacks, and no soda or snack machines, for instance), and the location has no decent restaurants, shopping, etc. within walking distance. The on-site restaurant wasn't good.
We were not accommodated in our request for a king room and the front desk gave me a lot of attitude when I politely and deferentially asked if we could be moved to a king.
Overall, I think this is 2 or 2.5 star property.
