Whilst I have no problem showing my card (and always have it ready without any complaint), I do think it is a bit rich to blame customers for taking issue with what is a stupidly-designed system.
But would you forget your passport and expect to be allowed to fly?
I really can't see the issue with having to produce your card to gain access to the lounges. That said, I only showed my boarding card at T5 and EDI lounges (although I had my card in my wallet) and I was allowed access without question.
