What I can't understand is why the system can't verify a customer's BAEC status when you scan the boarding card. Any sensibly designed system would automatically check the status of the holder of the boarding card and allow/deny lounge access accordingly.
Whilst I have no problem showing my card (and always have it ready without any complaint), I do think it is a bit rich to blame customers for taking issue with what is a stupidly-designed system.
