Let me shed some light on the subject. QF has a very complex revenue algorithm in place for RM (revenue management) and IM (inventory management). The way it works on a simplistic level is that when each flight is published in the system, the RM system feeds the data into inventory. There is a specific setting in inventory that sets the maximum number of seats allowed to be sold in a specific class. With award classes, its dependent on the flights history. Generally you will see it set at MAX 2 for P & U classes on the 747, and MAX 4 U and 2 (or 0) P on the A380. Now, as time goes on the RM system will adjust that MAX level but it will not fluctuate wildly. Generally though, once that MAX level has been reached you should only expect seats to become available if someone cancels an award redemption.
