Captain Bob
Since many posts of late have been downers, I wanted to point out a fun exchange I had the chance to witness. On Sunday I flew LAX-IND on the 11p red-eye flight and at least in the now old Terminal 2, there was some confusion as to what gate the flight was leaving from as a Virgin Atlantic flight was also leaving from the same area.
An elderly lady came up and asked the captain for clarification, then wanted to know if the wheelchair she'd ordered would be there to take her down the jetway. The Captain, Bob, introduced himself and told the woman he'd get right on it. He told her to take a seat and he'd let her know. She told him she's traveling on her own and appreciated his help.
Bob went to the gate desk, checked things out and a few minutes later, returned to the woman. He told her all was set and ready to go, and her wheelchair wouldn't have to take her too far. He'd upgraded her to seat 1C and she was beaming the whole way home, which tells you something when its a red-eye.
Stories like this one are fun for me as a frequent flier to witness, and undoubtedly NW/DL won over her future business with such a random act of kindness.
