Be careful with making broad statements like that... There was a thread a year or so ago about CO refusing to sell Y tickets in some markets over high-demand periods far in advance (they were, we assume, concerned about selling Y seats to fill the plane, having someone cancel/refund at the last minute & losing revenue). Also, there are times that even plat's cannot get a Y-fare on sold-out flights (non-mainline metal, times of 'exceptional demand', etc).
