Yes, you can book a one way award, but the price is the same as a round trip. They quote prices (mileage amounts) as one ways, but only offer round trips, or one ways at the same price as a round trip.

If you only need the one way, but there is a chance in the future you could use the return, it is beneficial to book a dummy return and pay the change fee if you ever decide to use it.

AA allows one ways for half the miles. Not sure about any other major doing that.
