The other portion of my trip to Kenya was not a safari. We visited a school in a rural area of east Kenya, called Houma Bay, on the edge of Lake Victoria. However, I did need assistance with the purchase of airline tickets(between Nairobi and Kisumu) and hotel arrangements in a Kisumi, Kenya's third largest city, located on Lake Victoria. I went through my local American Express Travel office. They, in turn, utilized African Travel, Inc. out of Glendale, California. African Travel, Inc. is in the Far&Wide family of travel companies. African Travel, Inc's local representative in Kenya was Express Travel Group, located in the lobby of the Nairobi Hilton. Express Travel Group is also the local American Express Travel Services representative in Nairobi. I prepaid for the hotel in Kisumu and private transportation between the Kisumu airport and the hotel. (I had other private arrangements for transporation and lodging to Houma Bay.) Express Travel Group was exceedingly unhelpful when I had problems with my hotel room and transportation. My prepaid transporation from the Kisumu airport to the hotel never arrived. Luckily, our host from Houma Bay met us at the Nairobi Airport and flew to Kisumu with us and had his car and driver meet us at the Kisumu airport. I DO NOT recommend using Express Travel Group for anything - they made excuses, lied and did not return phone calls as promised. However, we still had a wonderful trip. Best of luck.
