Often have thought about their rationale, too (or lack thereof)

AA 154 is NRT-ORD-BOS. (777 from NRT-ORD, then MD80 from ORD-BOS) I've flown both legs together and separately before...never quite understood why it needed to be the same flight number. Interesting to read some of the reasons proferred here...
