Given the size, you'd have to put it sideways into the overhead. If it's a very full flight, there is a remote possibility that the FA may pull any "oversized" pieces and have them gate-checked in order to accomodate more bags in the cabin. YMMV on that one. I've seen it happen, but rarely. If you're boarding late, you may get stuck gate-checking it anyway if there's no room in the overheads, unless you can convince a FA to stow it in the closet.
