The Marques de Monistrol rose at £10.99 a bottle was on offer from Tesco a year ago at £6.99 with a 3 for 2 offer i.e. about £4.60 a bottle. Assuming the average punter uses their 300 points to buy at Tesco, with a value of £6, the promotion is self funding as the £6 is already built into the price. What Tesco manage to achieve is a hysterical buying spree and the front loading of the collection of the £6 of additional revenue.

Now for the cognoscenti who have a better use for their points, the position is, of course, quite different ...... Even then Tesco probably buy the miles so cheap from BA that the economics come out much the same.
