I don't post here often, but this really has me so steamed that felt the need to do so.
To set a little history here, I have been a CO OnePass member for over 15 years.I've been either Gold or Platinum (whatever was the highest level) since 1996. I currently have nearly 2M total miles credit, and am getting close to being Lifetime Silver Elite with their new program. That mileage total is done without a credit card dumping miles in there too. I'm loyal to CO.
A couple of weeks ago, I was on the 7:15 PM out of Dallas Love to IAH. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the gate 20 minutes before the 5 PM flight hoping to jump on and possibly do the same out of Houston so I might get home a bit earlier. The agent informed me that I could go standby for $25, but I would get it back if I didn't get on the flight from Dallas. That in no way got me from Houston to my final destination in San Antonio either. So I passed hoping I could just wait and go standby with no fee.
Nope. Being a loyal CO flyer only gets you a $25 fee instead of $50. The plane from Dallas flew with about 15 empty seats. And even though I've spent a ton of money over the years, I couldn't go.
This new standby policy BLOWS. I understand the need to increase revenue, but this won't do it. What will do it is taking care of people, especially the people who fly the most, will keep us in the seats.
I hope CO pulls their head out of whatever deep recess it's in, and kills or changes this policy.
