I still don't know why AA would cancel so many LGA - ORD flights but they are probably happy to have an ATC reason to run fewer flights given the econ's impact on business travel to/from NYC.
UA has far fewer flights ex-LGA than AA; aside from UAX service to IAD, they only fly to DEN (and with much less frequency than to ORD) and I think there's one (or there used to be one) mainline flight to IAD (though some of those flights continue on with or without the same equipment to other destinations). But whatever the frequency, IME UA is indeed less apt to cancel a flight than AA.
