Going to SYD in the next month on business and I'm looking for the best way to either use a PMU or the mile upgrade on the trip, part of the question is when looking on Delta.com the price of the flight for an M class ticket is a bit over $2700 but the same flights on NWA.com are $2500. Also the NWA flight is NW MSP-LAX then NW coded DL LAX-SYD I know the price difference isn't much but that amount could mean the difference between being allowed to book the M fare or having to book a H, K, or Q.

The other part to the question is, if I book on NWA.com with the NW coded flight how will that affect my ability to upgrade if seats are available?

I'm NW Platinum and haven't opened a Skymiles account yet, was just planning on letting DL do it for me when the time came but definitely will if I need to use DL miles to upgrade.
