There are 2 back up flights from ATL-SAN. Should I call DL and book the later flight now or just wait and see what happens? There are other flights from FCO to SAN via JFK too. I don't know if DL will make the change to that routing though.
Using FF free tickets for this trip if that makes a difference.
Book the later flight now. Even if I were booked in BE and first off the plane, with carry on bags only, and using my Global Entry to blast through immigration and customs, I would not accept that schedule change, although if everything went perfectly I might be able to make that connection. Just a few minutes of delay going around summer pop-up thunderstorms on approach to ATL and you will miss your connection, and possibly end up standing by for a middle seat at the back of the bus all the way to SAN. Take the later flight, secure a good seat, and have another xxx on the rocks at the CRC while you're waiting.
