My friend purchased a package to Jamaica Grand Lido for $2000 including airfare for 2. He is suppose to leave on July 8th but the problem is that his wife is a Brazilian national US resident alien with an expired Brazilian passport. Last week they called the Brazilian consulate in NYC and were told that they could get one day service. So they drove 5 hours last week and were told that there is backlog and that it would take a couple of days instead of the one day service. They were told to expect it by this week. Yesterday, when they called the Brazilian consulate told them that it would take longer. They called again in the afternoon and was told that the consulate had lost her old passport. They faxed in the receipt that she had surrendered her passport but the consulate still does not know where the passport is and cannot produce a new passport without.

What would be your advise to my friends?
