It might be hard to convince your COO of AA's superiority to UA if he has to start from scratch. No E+ on a MD80 does not an AA fan make! I prefer UA (albeit slightly), but here's my take...

The big thing for AA is free domestic upgrades for EXP, better call centers, and more consistent in-flight service. Everything else on UA is preferred in my experience.

Now, considering how similar the airlines are, it does come down to destinations, routing. Does your company have common destinations that AA serves better? That is the best arguement IMO.
