No need, unless you're hoping to be op-upped or doing standby.
All published benefits of Star Gold except priority waitlisting and standby can be obtained simply by showing the Star Gold card, rather than having to enter it into the system.
The risk of waiting till the gate and after the manifest has been printed is that either 1. you will forget, or 2. there is some other problem changing the number.
