When you asked UA to accommodate the request, make sure to say that they are YOUR bags and not SOMEONE ELSE'S. (TSA rule number one!)

Just mention that YOUR luggage is in DEN and not SFO. If they ask why, just say it's from a previous trip and you didn't have a chance to pick it up earlier (which is true...you can't pick it up until you get to DEN ).
