By any chance was it the CMH Columbus Airport Marriott? Over the years I have been incorrectly billed for no shows twice at this property. In both cases, I had cancelled the reservation and had a cancellation email to prove it. It took two calls to the hotel each time to get it straightened out but they did refund my cc. In one case, I got stay credit and points and in the more recent case no stay credit nor points. You're not suppose to get points and stay credit on no shows but sometimes they process them incorrectly and you get them anyway.

P.S. The CMH Marriott is a mediocre airport property that has really cut back on their lounge offerings with the "enhancement" program this year. The first few stays they also gave me free Internet and now they no longer do so. I still stay their once in a while because it is convenient for me when heading into Columbus late in the day. Otherwise, I would no longer stay at this property. YMMV....
P.P.S. In over 10 years of staying at Marriott properties, this is the only one I can ever remember incorrectly charging me a no show fee. Once or twice I screwed up and I ate the cost without complaint since it was my error.
