You could try moving the trip up into September, August, or even July, or take it as scheduled in October. I know how much it means to your Dad that you do this - it is also important to him that you come back and share your experiences with him. I wouldn't worry about Sis too much - try to explain it to her, but if you can't, just ignore and go anyway. You'll have plenty of opportunities in the future to make Sis happy.
gemac, thank you. You have been with me on this from the beginning. Problem with going during their "season" (their term, not mine) is that it is on-peak (60k), and he has 40k (works for offpeak).
I promised to go next summer. Hubby can then go with me, and by then we will either come up with more miles or buy the extra tickets. If it looks like Dad won't make that, then I can always do a quickie on a partner airline this winter, take some pictures, and then return later with Mr. P1.
