OTOH, I prefer to regulate my own environment when flying longhaul, not the airline. So I travel with my own eyemask, one which firts comfortably and blocks all light, and either use my Etymotic earbuds or my own silicone ear plugs (sound blocking, not "noise reduction," in both cases.

That means I can board ORD-BRU, say, and go to sleep in a reasonably comfortable seat (and I do not prefer the QF J seat to the AA J seat,) whilst the FAs are serving dinner. Getting there safely and reliably, the mission; food, soft cabin environment, etc. mere fripperies in comparison, IMO.
