I've been extremely happy with Air Canada's Executive First class. Since AC is 2-class it is better than being in Biz on a 3-class airplane.
For excellent seat pitch - try to be on Air Canada's A340 and the new 767-300's are great in Exec. First class.
Flying to NY to Europe thru Toronto has some complications. There is no transit area at Pearson so you will need to clear Canadian customs/immigration and walk from the transborder gates to the international ones.
Also I don't think your luggage will be checked thru to you final destination but it may have changed now.
