I would not refuse an upgrade, but there's no way in hell I'm paying multiple thousands of dollars for a comfy seat and free booze.
When I am up front, I either got upgraded of I blew a tonne of points (Rare, as I'm stingy with those, too...). One of the positives to having a job requiring lots of travel is that all of my vacas with my wife are free, as I use points to pay for the airfare, the hotel, and the hire car.
