I am sure you will find exceptions, but my guess is many of the folks are like me an have careers which require a great deal of air travel, thus we are traveling on our company's dimes. Others may be consultants who bill the air travel to their clients. We keep the status and miles we earn flying on business.

I have status on 3 airlines, I would not be able fly very often if I had to do it on my dime.
