How about from IAD? Usually if going into DC fly in DCA and then cab in. Last time remember renting a car but parking was crazy. There will be two of us. Can still the best option? Know of no metro link from IAD to DC. Thanks.
There is no Metro to IAD (though there are plans to build one... sometime). You can take the 5A bus to downtown (L'enfant I believe) or a couple buses to West Falls Church I believe. Cabs are always an option, but much more expensive than from DCA as IAD is much further away.
Parking for a car is expensive if using a lot or the hotel, or a pain to find typically if trying to park on the road. Cars in general are more of a liability in DC than they are helpful. For example to get to Dupont as someone mentioned is an easy 5-10 minute walk to the Faragut North Metro station and then 2-3 stops on the Red Line, or a $8-$10 (at most) cab ride...
