The lower bunk in both Viewliner and Superliner bedrooms is just 40" across. Two people just won't be comfortable, or even fit, on the lower bunk. There is no distinction between day travel and night travel, either.
We shared the lower bunk of a bedroom in a Viewliner just fine a few months ago. We aren't huge people, but it was plenty comfortable for two married adults. I wouldn't want to have to share it with a stranger, that's for sure.
