I think that's a good plan. As for the boats, although they usually don't sell out in June, I've seen it happen. To be safe, if I were in their position I'd go to a boat ticket office (they are everywhere and advertise themselves prominently) as soon as I got to one island and buy tickets for the next island (or Athens.)
