My life or the life of BA? I've got a good fifty years in me yet, God willing; if BA hasn't merged or disappeared by 2059 I'll be astounded!
I'm AF Plat for life - practically lived on AF planes. A lot of commotion re: AF or FlyingBlue on the respective flytalk boards.
I can only agree that selling memberships to higher echelons, i.e. Gold w/ BA, would seriously alienate the current Gold members. Offering even Silver would have a detrimental impact on the lounge situation in T5.
Actually, the price for BA Gold membership is not that high:
1. 5 days
2. TXL-LHR-JFK return in WTP, GBP 1.074
3. JFK-LAS-MIA-JFK in First on AA, GBP 1.030
4. JFK-MIA-SXM return in First/Business on AA, GBP 415
5. Hotel nights
= (20+75+60+40)x2 = 390+180+180+60 = 810 Tier Points
= BA Gold for GBP 2.519 incl. taxes
If you throw in 2 more days, you actually get to spend some time at LAS or SXM

. I am pretty sure that the freaks out the BA Tier run thread would be able to come to a lower GBP amount.
Actually, if you were to substitute SJU for SXM (but who would want to?) you could do TXL-LHR-JFK-LAS-MIA-JFK-MIA-SJU-MIA in two long days departing TXL at say Friday 07:15 a.m. local and arriving into MIA at 11:05 p.m. local on the next day - incl. 5 hours in LAS. And then MIA-JFK-LHR-TXL a day later getting back to TXL 11:35 a.m. Monday morning. So only 4 days are necessary

.
Now the question is: Why do I earn BA Gold on TXL-LHR-JFK/BOS/EWR/SIN/MAA/BOM/DEL and TXL-BUD-AndThenEast runs instead of LAS and SXM?
