I actually booked back to back tickets completely unaware this was against the CoC. Reason for doing so is the outer tickers are company and the inner one is personal. I didn't check any of this at the time of booking which was over a week ago. Both tickets are ticketed in my reservations. I feel sort of like AA should have notified me of this at the time of booking. I don't want to be screwed at the airport and they are so effective at stopping you from putting two tickets on hold to the same place I don't see why they can't check this.
You intend to fly all four flights. Chances are really good that nothing at all will happen. If anything does happen, it is that both flights will be upfared to fares that do not require a Saturday night stay, and you would be required to pay the fare difference. If you are unwilling to take that chance, you could cancel the July 16/19 ticket, get a voucher, and spend the weekend in Italy. I would recommend Bellagio, on Lake Como.
