I doubt you'll see an increase in frequency on PDX-SJC-AUS. The whole point of this is to revive the "nerd bird" from SJC-AUS, a route that AS thinks they can run profitably. The PDX-SJC segment seems to be tagged on to carry some through traffic from PDX. PDX-SEA-AUS makes very little sense actually.
I would guess a bit of through traffic, a bit of scheduling efficiency, and a bit of trying to appease PDX-Bay Area flyers all wrapped together!
