It sounds like the 73x is quite a bit more efficient...
I doubt that AA was charging too much. WN is going to dictate the fare levels on SJC-AUS, I believe.

It's definitely AA's cost structure (high labor costs and relatively inefficient planes), although the MD80's lower cost of ownership offsets some of the fuel costs.
