The time/date of request for the SEA/ORD flight is the time that you were moved to that flight. Being on the list, however high, never trumps those whose upgrades have already cleared.
AA made the change when the DFW/ATL flight was canceled. I received the notice by cell phone about 4 hours before the flight. My question was whether mileage upgrade provides any advantage in these situations.
