Specific example: Flying SEA/DFW/ATL today on a mileage upgrade. DFW/ATL flight has been canceled and I was rebooked on SEA/ORD/ATL but in coach on the first leg. SEA/ORD F is full. Does AA ever downgrade based on a priority to accommodate passengers "higher"on the list? I can understand that they don't want to alienate individuals already in F.
The time/date of request for the SEA/ORD flight is the time that you were moved to that flight. Being on the list, however high, never trumps those whose upgrades have already cleared.
