My MIL purchased a domestic 1st class ticket LAX-MBS for 100,000 Worldperk miles for my husband for a wknd in mid-July. She was trying to make his experience more comfortable, considering he is 6'6" tall, even though he told her there was no need. Currently economy class tickets for that route and time of day run 60,000 or $778 on Orbitz (doesn't show up on NWA) via a Delta/NWA share (longer layover on the return than his current ticket).

Anyhow, my question is, since 100,000 miles = so many great 1st class travel possibilities IF I can ever find a perk saver flight, can we and should change the ticket to go somewhere else (if we find somewhere else to go) and just by the $532 economy ticket? Is it possible to cancel it and have it go into my husband's NWA account until we rebook it, or do we have to rebook immediately and does it have to be the same route, or any route? Or do I just suck it up and let him enjoy his nice flight home while we work hard to save up our own miles?
